MA
A one-year interdisciplinary master’s program with a final major research paper, this program is offered by the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures and with the collaboration of several other departments from the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Social Sciences. Students registered in the program are expected to be fluent in one of the official languages of the University of Ottawa and to have a good passive knowledge of the other. The program focuses on the issues of representation and the construction of identities and differences in various cultural traditions. Students study works of literature, film and new media in relation to questions of cultural identity, the nature of representation, and the nature of the text in their broader cultural contexts.
