The department offers three fields of study and research: polar and mountain environments; cities, cultures and social change; and environmental change, risk and adaptation. It houses laboratories for GIS, physical geography, paleoclimatology and climatology, remote sensing and geomatics of the environment. The department participates in the following collaborative program: Canadian Studies (PhD).
